5 tips to prepare children for school
Are you going to school or is your child waiting for kindergarten? Whether it's the first time or after a two-month vacation, everything should be done to make the start as easy as possible without big fears and tears.
With the end of summer approaching, it's completely natural to feel nervous at home - after all, your child is entering a group of other individuals for the first time or after months, where it won't be you or daddy, just someone he knows intimately. Some children welcome the change, others may need a little more hand-holding to acclimatise.
The tips below can help your family transition smoothly into the next school year with minimal negative emotions, and if you're still unsure, confide in your concerns and your child's teachers. Direct your questions to him and he will be prepared for possible complications.
1. Visit the school or classroom before the first day
Most schools already do this. It lets children and their parents see their magical places. The teachers get to know the children in advance and they do not step into the unknown on the first day of school. If this is not possible at your school, take a field trip to the school and see the building.
2. Read books about starting school
Stories with characters your child can relate to – especially first-day-school/kindergarten characters – are helpful for easing first-day jitters and building confidence. Children will know roughly what awaits them. And you will spend a nice time with them with a book. We recommend, for example: A-Z You will go to school, I will go to kindergarten and What is happening at school.
3. Talk to the child about his feelings about school/kindergarten
Ask them what they are looking forward to and what they want to learn. What they expect from schools and, of course, what they are afraid of. Speak and explain.
4. Game on
"Kids love the game of..." Try playing school. You will be the teacher and show the children what it's like at school and then switch roles. You can do the same with kindergarten. Stuffed animals can be friends who will go on a rampage there with you.
5. Shopping for school supplies
Take your child shopping with you, even on the computer screen, and let them choose a new school bag, pencil case, snack box and water bottle . By choosing school supplies, you will increase their enthusiasm and excitement for a new journey in their life. In addition, you show them that you care about their opinion and consider them your partners.
So let your children step out on the right foot and with a smile on the first day of school or kindergarten. And you moms, don't worry. They can do it <3
