Little Otja: Characters from the pine forest

Little Otja: Postavy z borového lesa

Parents often find themselves faced with a difficult task when arranging a children's room. At a time when the wide scope of imagination allows us to let loose, it is difficult to judge how individual elements will really affect a child. A gentle color palette, calm tones and graphically refined images of heroes are the hallmarks of the Little Otja brand, which often finds a place for its sympathies even in the children's room.

The design studio Pikto is behind the Little Otja brand, and the authors of the Otja bunny itself are art historian Nadja Ocepek together with visual communication designer Jernej Sitar. Previously, Nadja worked in the field of culture, and Jernej is the author of many award-winning graphic brand identities. Together with Otja and the other heroes from the Pine Forest, they combined their superpowers and created a wonderful brand that will impress with its sympathetic images. The brand team is gradually growing, and each of them contributes to the fact that the animals from the Pine Forest find their way to the youngest audience and to everyone who is close to the modern way of life.

Animals with human characteristics

Each character has interesting character traits and occupations. In doing so, the creators rely on the exuberant imagination that gave the story wings at the very beginning. The idea had been around for a long time, but there had never been a real opportunity to implement it before. The very first inspiration for the story itself definitely comes from Nadia's childhood. She spent a lot of time in nature with her father, who is a big fan of science. Which had a major impact on the profession of the bunny Otji himself, who is a botanist living in the Pine Forest with his friends, animals with human characteristics. Otja is somewhat similar to Nadja, but he is not an autobiographical character. A fun fact is that both Otja and Nadja adore lines. Striped t-shirts, striped wallpaper, striped bedding. The creative process takes place exclusively in the studio, where a small team shakes their heads and forges new ideas. Sketches are created first and are continuously improved. Of course, the process varies from product to product, so it is extremely time-varying and often not simple, even if the result looks so simple.

Products for the little ones that adults also adore.

Every success story is written with ups and downs and Little Otja is no exception. Brand development is a journey of constant learning that practically never ends. Today, the brand is known primarily for its decorations and paper products, and designers want it to grow into much more. So they want to swim in other areas of creation, but for something like that they need a lot of resources and technical knowledge, which they gradually acquire and the assortment is constantly expanding.

In the varied assortment of the Little Otja brand today you can find decorative products for the wall, frames, blankets, pillows, stationery and clothes. "The posters with forest hero motifs are still among the most popular, probably because we started with them and people know us best from them. Today we also have other products for furnishing children's rooms and the home: knitted blankets and pillows. We are also slowly expanding the gift program," says Nadja and explains that although Otja and his animal friends are intended primarily for the company of the little ones, older people also use them. It is mainly for lovers of simple design.

Aesthetics accompanied by high content value

With their products, they want to achieve the highest environmentally friendly standards, while at the same time paying attention to the values they pass on to users through their products. Rabbit Otja has friends with whom he lives in the Pine Forest, in a parallel fantasy world that is very similar to ours, only life in it is different from ours. There is no hatred, inequality, violence, pollution and other ills in our world that need to be improved or even fixed in the Pine Forest. Because many people still don't care much about the space we live in, Otja the rabbit thinks a lot about the world and people and appeals to anyone who wants to listen and prick up his ears. Individual stories are included on cards with the products sold, and we will gradually add them to the blog.
