Kukukid

They have marine DNA in them. There are three. Three women, mothers and friends who went into business together and created the legendary children's brand Kukukid , sold in twenty countries around the world. The motto "Rebel but cute" perfectly fits the approach to childhood that the founders like. In addition, she believes that the more freedom children have, the more creative they are. How other women influence them and where they draw inspiration, you will learn on the next lines.
How did your brand name come about?
The name comes from the children's "akuk", which means "Here I am, catch me if you can" in Polish.
Describe Kukukid in 3 words.
That's quite simple. Rebel, but cute.

Tell us more about your team.
There are three of us in the management of the company - Marta Ozog-Orzegowska, Joanna Znajewska and Maja Kubit. Together we create the main idea of the collection. Maya is responsible for the cuts and styling. Joanna for the prints. We are crazy about fashion and our children. We have 4 children together. When we founded Kukukid, the oldest was four years old and the youngest wasn't even born yet.
How does being a woman affect your work?
Considerably. Women were and are our great support. We all support each other. Whether at work, childcare or friendship. I think that's actually one of the best things about being able to work with women - there's more empathy and understanding between us.

We use organic cotton and have all production in Poland, thus supporting the Polish economy.
What about sustainability and the Kukukid brand?
We work with local sewing and printing companies. We want to support the Polish textile industry with our business. "Fair Trade" is what we believe in.
What is your inspiration?
Actually everything - the world around us.
Which phase of creating a new collection is the most exciting?
Basically creating the "big idea" of the collection - the colors, the prints and the moment we see the first samples.
What are your favorite pieces from the current collection?
Flowers! They are so hippie.
Which children's fashion trend will "live forever"?
That's a tricky question. But I believe that one thing in fashion will be forever: inspiration from earlier times. Fashion is an art - it's interdisciplinary.
Are your childhood memories reflected in individual collections?
Yes, very often. All three of us were born during communism in Poland. But because we had wonderful families, our memories are really beautiful - full of freedom, although the country was not free at all.
Who is the most inspiring to you?
It's really hard to give a specific name. It's definitely pop culture and the sea. As we live by the sea, we love sailing, surfing, kitesurfing. We believe that the combination of wind and marine DNA is very powerful.
Thanks for the lovely interview and be rebellious but cute!
